34th International Vila del Palamós Optimist Trophy - Day 1

The first day of the leaves Swedish Oscar Wetter at the top of the leaderboard, finishing undefeated after winning the two races sailed today in the waters of Palamós Bay.

The day started with fog and SW Garbí wind, around 15 knots for the first race. The initial nervousness of the fleet was sensed with several general recalls with black flag in the different groups.

Spanish sailor Juan Lleonart and Swedish Oscar Wetter started winning the first race in their respective groups and finishing second and first respectively in the second race with Wetter leading the provisional overall standings and Lleonart I second place. With two third places, Spanish sailor Joan Domingo completes the top three. European runner-up, Mateo Carbonell from Spain is fifth overall.A first day in Palamós that offered opportunities for everyone, as the average wind in the first race dropped to 5-6 knots for the second race, opening the door to all conditions for the fleet.

The first girls is Ukrainian Olha Lubianska, eleventh in the overall standings.

NE Gregal wind 12 to14 knots is forecasted for tomorrow, Friday. The intention of the Race Committee is to have three starts in all groups, and a discard will be applied once the fourth race is completed.

After Friday's races, the ‘Winner Party’, one of the most anticipated moments for all sailors, will be held at the beach venue.
