Thailand winns the 2023 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Team Racing Champion
Singapore claims second place and Malaysia and UAE are tied for third place while USA was first in the overall championship.
31 matches were sailed under a competition format where the 16 participating teams had to avoid two defeats in order not to be eliminated directly from the competition.
In the initial phase, three consecutive victories in their matches against UAE, THA2 and USA gave ITA the passage to the quarter finals where they defeated TUR which guaranteed them a place in the Final.
The remaining six teams, all with one loss, were fighting desperately for a second win to save them from a direct elimination.
SGP, USA and THA1 achieved their goal by beating MAS, SWE and UAE respectively.
In the next round USA defeated SGP in a heart-stopping match, while TUR was defeated by THA1.
USA and THA faced each other in a single match to decide ITA's opponent in the final, being finally USA the second finalist.
In the Final, scheduled to the best of three wins, USA defeated ITA by two wins to nil.
