New Leader Emerges after Race Day 2 at SAMS

Although the second day of racing started off looking promising with winds of 8-14 Knts, the wind shifted and the first race was abandoned.   After the wind settled down the RC was able to get two good races completed for a total of 5 races in the qualifying series.

With sailors allowed to drop their worst score, the leaderboard had a bit of a shake-up and a new leader emerged.  Franco Sanchez, the newly crowned Argentina Optimist Champion, jumped from 11th the day before to 1st overall with a total of 7 pts.  There are 4 sailors tied for second place with 10 points, that includes Race Day 1’s leader David Coates from the USA.   He is tied with two US teammates Logan Mraz and James Pine.  All three are sharing 2nd place overall with Argentinian Tomas Travaglini.  Hot on their heals are Agustin Segovia from CHI, Stefano Francavilla from BRA, Richard Sykes from the USA,  and Bernardo Fernandez from ECU.

Arantza Valdivieso Zimmermann from PER remains as the top girl after 5 races, although her overall standings dropped to 17th.  Second Girl is Carolina Witsiers from BRA in 21st and third girl is Isabella Suazo from PER in 23rd place overall.

Fleet racing takes a break for a day while the 2021 South American Team Racing and Nations Cup take place on Wednesday.  16 Teams will race off for the 2021 South American Team Racing Championship while there are 8 Teams racing off in the Nations Cup (for countries outside South America).

Fleet racing will commence on Thursday with the competitors allocated to Gold, Silver and Bronze Fleets based on the results at the end of the 5 race qualification series.
