Optimist World Championship Dates Moved

The IODA Executive Committee would like to announce that it has approved the request by the organizers to move the dates of the 2023 Optimist World Championship to June 15-25th.

The 2023 Optimist World Championships is being organized by the Club Vela Ballena Alegre and will take place at the Ballena Alegre Costa Brava - Camping Bungalow Resort & Spa, located in Costa Brava, Spain, which recently won the “European Best Sustainability and Environmental Award” (ADAC-2022) for their accommodation and venue facilities.

2023 is the 60th Anniversary of the Optimist World Championship. We hope that 60+ Member Nations will join us in Costa Brava to celebrate this milestone. The organizers are planning many activities to mark this occasion. Sustainability and the environment will be major themes of the championship.

It is also the 50th Anniversary of the modern Optimist Dinghy as a recognized World Sailing International Class. We will be celebrating this milestone at the Optimist World Championship and throughout the year.
