Lots of Action on Day 1 of the 2022 Arkas Optimist Team Racing World Championship

Today was the first of two days of team races at the 2022 Arkas Optimist World Team Racing Championship in Bodrum. The team race is often a highlight for young sailors as an alternative discipline for optimist fleet racing.

Forty-eight teams competed today in almost perfect team racing conditions. Two separate courses were established for the team racing today, both very close to the shore. The first races began at 11 am and ended late into the afternoon for 72 races throughout the day.

16 Teams prevailed to continue team racing tomorrow. Those teams are the United States of America (USA), Türkiye (TUR), Ukraine (UKR), Thailand (THA), Bermuda (BER), Sweden (SWE), Peru (PER), Slovenia (SLO), Brazil (BRA), Spain (ESP), Denmark (DEN), Japan (JPN), Italy (ITA), Greece (GRE), France (FRA) and Germany (GER).

Today's races were streamed live on the Opti Worlds 2022 Youtube page; tomorrow's races will also be live-streamed on the youtube page. At the end of tomorrow's events, the top 3 teams will prevail.  The top team of the 2022 Arkas Optimist Team Racing World Championship will receive the IODA Challenge Cup and be crowned the world champions at the award ceremony scheduled for the 6th of July.
