2023 Optimist World Championship – More Than a Sailing Event

The Club de Vela La Ballena Alegre is promoting the exhibition "The Optimist a School of Sailors", within the framework of the 50th Anniversary of the international recognition of the class and the 60th edition of the World Championship as an opportunity to remember the origins and evolution of the Optimist Class.

In collaboration with the network of maritime museums of Catalonia, http://museusmaritims.mmb.cat/  this exhibition can be seen at the Museu de la pesca in Palamós https://museudelapesca.org/  until March 26.

The Palamós exhibition unites in the same room a beautiful wooden optimist, built in 1958 ( it is said to be the first optimist to sail in Catalonia), the 1986 World Champion boat, with Xavier Garcia Muret (Spain) as skipper and a modern IODA 95 Optimist.

The Club de Vela la Ballena Alegre, as a member of the Catalonia 2030 Alliance is fully committed to the goal of developing the project “2023 Optimist World Championship – Sustainable Experience”,

The exhibition is linked to the #SDG 11 - Sustainable cities and communities, protecting and safeguarding the world's cultural and natural heritage.

The 2030 Agenda is the new global roadmap for moving towards sustainable development. Approved by the United Nations in 2015, it includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030, which cover the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainability and address five major areas: planet, people, prosperity, peace and alliances.

The Catalonia 2030 Alliance, promoted by the Government of Catalonia through its Advisory Council for Sustainable Development (CADS). is a partnership between public and private entities where the country's commitments are shared to make the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) a reality.

The foundation of the Alliance resides in the National Agreement for the 2030 Agenda, which provides a shared vision on how to contribute to advancing the achievement of the SDGs and reinforces the Club's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by its actions already implemented online in the 2030 Agenda.
