2022 Asian & Oceanian Championship Officially Opens

The 2022 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship taking place December 13 to 20th in Mumbai, India has officially opened.

The Opening Ceremony for the event was held in the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre where the sailors, supporters and sponsors were invited to experience the Diya lighting ceremony and traditional Indian dance performance.

Lieutenant General HS Kahlon, SM welcomed the sailors. He was proud of all the great work the organizers had made within such a short time.

The oath of fair competition was given by Jai Mutreja from Hong Kong on behalf of the sailors and on behalf of the jury the oath was given by Rut Subniran from Thailand, Chair of the Jury. 

Ajay Narang (IND), IODA Vice-President of Africa, Asia and Oceania, welcomed all sailors and was happy to see 101 sailors from 13 nations (AUS, BEL, HKG, IND, JPN, MAS, MRI, SGP, SRI, THA, TPE, UAE, and USA) represented at the event. He wished the sailors all the best for the regatta and for a bright future in sailing. He declared the championship officially open and the IODA flag was raised.
