Sail Digital is Live
We’re happy to share some great news — the Sail Digital system is now live!
Dear Sailors, Boat Owners, Optimist Family
We’re happy to share some great news — the Sail Digital system is now live!
As part of this exciting step forward, and in line with the Class Rules, all Optimist boats, equipment, and sails manufactured after 1 January 2026 will no longer have paper measurement certificates. Instead, certification will be handled digitally through the Sail Digital system.
So, what does this mean in practice?
All new equipment manufactured after 1 January 2026 will include RFID identification, making it easy to store and access measurement certificates digitally:
Hulls will be fitted with the new World Sailing RFID Hull Plaque
Sails will carry a new label, clearly visible at the tack
Foils will have their labels embedded within the laminate
Spars will feature a new label, as required by the Class Rules
How do you access your measurement certificates?
Simply download the Sail Digital App, available from:
Apple App Store
Google Play Store (Android)
Using your phone or tablet, you can point your device at the RFID tag to instantly view the digital measurement certificate (if a measurement has been recorded). Only equipment owned by you will be visible.
If an item does not yet have a measurement certificate, nothing changes — just bring it to a certified measurer as usual. Measurers have access to the Sail Digital system and can complete and upload the measurement for you.
Owner access and equipment transfers
Owners of newly manufactured equipment will receive their own personal login and password for the Sail Digital system, giving access to the measurement forms for their equipment only once ownership has been transferred to them.
If a boat/sail/equipment is purchased directly from a builder, ownership can be transferred to you within the system by the builder. If this has not been done, your local measurer can help you do this and complete the transfer for you. If you sell on your boat/equipment you must transfer the ownership to the new owner.
We encourage all members to take a little time to familiarise themselves with Sail Digital as we move toward a simpler, fully digital certification process.
Finally, we would like to extend a big thank you to our manufacturers and sailmakers for their patience, cooperation, and support in helping get this system up and running. Your collaboration has been essential in bringing Sail Digital to life.
Kind regards,
Technical Committee
