The Sentosa Open Championship ended on Saturday but teams from Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand and Singapore, stayed on to take part in the first edition of the Optimist Team Racing Championship.

Storm clouds brought good winds on the first day and the race committee managed to run 52 races after which the top four teams qualified for the second and final round.

No wind at all in the morning of the second day threatened to spoil the event, but a light breeze filled in slowly and soon enough the wind increased to an average speed of 12-13 knots.

After many races, Thailand and Malaysia were at the top of the scoreboard and made it to the finals, leaving behind the two Singaporean teams, who had to be content with a fight for the third and fourth places.

After a fierce battle Malaysia emerged as champions. Thailand was second, followed by Singapore Team 1.
