Perfect Sailing Conditions on Day One at the SAMS

A bright sun and winds from the south of between 14 and 20 knots, made for a perfect start for the first three races of the 2021 Optimist South American Championship taking place in Mar del Plata, Argentina

155 sailors battled it out in three different fleets (Yellow, Blue and Red) to start the qualification series.

After 3 races, only 10 points separate the top 10 boats from six different countries, so it is early days to declare any standout leaders.

Top of the leaderboard is David Coates from the USA followed by Argentinian Tomas Travaglini in second with Augustin Segovia from CHI one point behind in third.

Top girl after 3 races is Arantza Valadivieso Zimmermann from Peru tied in 4th place overall. Second girl is Angela Vittoria Domine Zeano from ARG in 17th and third girl is Isabella Suazo from PER in 19th overall.

Sailors will be reassigned on Tuesday to new fleets to conclude the second day of racing in the qualification series.  Two races are scheduled on Tuesday. Fleet Racing will take a break for the South American Team Racing Championships taking place on Wednesday.
