IODA Measurement Seminar at SAMS a Success

The IODA Technical Committee held its first of four Measurement Seminars on March 22-25th, just prior to the 2018 South American Championships hosted by the Yacht Club Uruguayo in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The objective of the seminar was to provide a training platform to teach people how to measure an Optimist dinghy, so that they could eventually become trained measurers in their countries if desired. This would help IODA expand the technical support of the class. IODA is also looking to expand its pool of measurers for its' events.

The measurement seminar was supported by IODA and was free of charge for all participants. Transportation, accommodation and meals was the responsibility of the attendee. Ten people signed up to participate in the classroom and practical sessions. They were from Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay.

The seminar was focused on "event measurement" including some formal aspects, measurement procedures, sail certification and so on, that were divided into theoretical and practical parts. The Seminar was instructed by Diego Freiría, IM and Yacht Designer as well as member of the Technical Committee, and assisted by Claudio Zon, Naval Mechanic Engineeer and Chairman of the IODA Technical Committee.

Those people who participated received Certificates of Completion and were recognized at the Closing Ceremonies.

The next Measurement Seminar will be prior to the North American Championship taking place in Puerto Vallarta, MEX in June.

Check the IODA website over the coming months for information regarding this seminar.
