FLOODING IN SRI LANKA

The 2016 Optimist Asian and Oceanian Championships is taking place from May 28th to June 5th in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

Trincomalee is located on the north east coast of Sri Lanka and has not been terribly affected by the recent rains and flooding.

We are also monitoring the Colombo area, and understand that the severest flooding has happened on the Western side of the island and is not affecting the City of Colombo..  At this time flights into Colombo airport are continuing as usual,  and the roads to Trincomalee are in normal passable condition.  The overall conditions are expected to improve by Monday as adverse weather moves away from the island.

The Organizers are doing everything in their power to ensure that it is safe for the competitors and the teams from the 15 nations attending the event.

IODA will continue to monitor the situation for its members,  and will post relevant updates for information purposes only on the website as required.
