ASAF Signs a Four-Year Partnership Agreement with IODA

The Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) and the International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) are pleased to announce a four-year partnership agreement that provides benefits to the rapidly growing fleet of Optimist sailors and coaches across Asia. 

ASAF and IODA strongly believe in the importance of having a globally-respected workforce of coaches with an established and consistent curriculum as a key factor for the athlete development.

The IODA Clinics for Coaches are intended to provide basic training for participants of all levels through courses led by an expert nominated jointly by the ASAF and IODA. By offering technical training and promoting best practices, coaches will develop their skills and support successful performances in the sport.

With this initiative, ASAF offers to its 35 affiliated Member National Associations (MNA), the opportunity to successfully develop the Optimist sailing in their countries.

Through a five to ten day intense programme, which shall be organised before each of the ASAF Youth Sailing Cups and the IODA Asian and Oceanian Championships, the sailors and coaches will work on development of skills both on and off the water under the watchful eyes of a world class Expert Coach to be appointed jointly by ASAF and IODA. Alongside traditional sailing skills and coaching techniques, they will also be provided training tips, rules sessions and more to enable the coaches and young sailors to become better all-round competitors.

As young sailors become involved, and want to learn, it is important that they have access to best guidance and mentorship in order to continue their progression. This partnership provides benefits to Optimist sailors who are in the beginning stages of their education. We are pleased to be a part of that process and wish them smooth sailing.”
