Close Racing On Day 1 of the 2022 Arkas Optimist World Championship

Two races were completed in a strenthening breeze on the first day of the 2022 Arkas Optimist World Championships.

To mark the opening racing of the championship, the first of today's races were ceremonisly started by the Turkish Sailing Federation President Özlem Akdurak and District Governor Of Bodrum Bilgehan Bayar.

Today offered up fierce competition across all 4 fleets of 276 sailors.  Although it is early days, top of the leaderboard are Malcom Dahlberg from SWE, Sviatoslav Madonich of UKR and Ionnis Tournis of Greece all tied in points. 

Sailors will be reassigned to new fleets tomorrow so the competition will start to take shape after another two scheduled races are completed in the qualifying series.

Sailing conditions are almost perfect and the forcast is looking promising for the next few days.
