2022 African Championship Officially Opens

The 2022 Optimist African Championship hosted by the Theewater Sports Club in Langebaan, South Africa has officially opened.

A total of 66 sailors from 6 African Nations (ALG, ANG, MOZ, SEY, RSA, TAN) and 4 nations (ANT, ARG, AUS, BRA) representing 4 continents have travelled to South Africa to take part in this championship.

The sailors are all very excited to be competing again at an IODA Continental Championship after a 3-year hiatus due to COVID 19.

The Organizing Committee and team of dedicated volunteers have been working very hard to ensure that everyone has a wonderful experience at the championships.

A special mention must go to the valued partners Western Cape Government, Southern Wind and SAS Western Cape who have come forward with significant sponsorship for this championship.
