2019 South Americans Ready to Start

170 Sailors from 17 countries have travelled to Algarrobo, Chile for the 2019 Optimist South American Championship taking place April 6 to 13th, the first IODA event of the 2019 season.

The event is organized by the Club de Optimist de Chile and is hosted by the Cofradía Náutica del Pacífico Club in Algarrobo, Chile.

The organizers have been very busy with the preparations of the event and have warmly welcomed all of the sailors and teams, many whom have travelled from as far away as Australia and New Zealand to attend the event.

Teams from Antigua, Argentina, Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, USA, Uruguay and Virgin Islands are all in attendance.  

Measurement is underway today and will continue tomorrow. Many teams are out practicing on the field of play with their coaches and teammates.  The opening ceremonies is scheduled for Sunday.

It promises to be a great week of fleet racing and team racing for everyone.
