2018 European Team Racing Championship Opens

The 2018 European Team Racing Championship has opened in Lago di Ledro with the parade of nations taking place through the streets of the historic town of Ledro.  IODA President, Kevin Whitcraft attended the opening ceremonies and officially opened the championship.  

This is the 10th year that the Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro(AVLL) has hosted this very important IODA Championship. Needless to say, the organizers and volunteers are very experienced in running team racing events -  in fact they are passionate about it!

Assembled is a very experienced team of umpires led by Diego Yubero.  The other members of the team are Chris Atkins, Peter Johnson, Michele Rizzi, Heiko Falch, and Fabio Carsughi.

Although 16 nations qualified to participate in the championship, only 15 teams will be competing.  Bulgaria was unable to attend this year. The countries competing in this year’s championship are:

  • Denmark
  • Great Britain
  • Germany
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Russia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Turkey
  • Ukraine

Racing starts on Tuesday with Stage 1 of the championship.  The maximum number of races in this stage is 120.  The first 49 races will be a complete round robin for two Leagues - A and B. 

League A consists of GRE, POL, SLO, SWE, RUS, DEN and NED.  League B consists of TUR, GER, ESP, ISR, ITA, GBR, CRO, UKR.
