Last Sunday saw the end of the traditional "Semana del Mar" in Mar del Plata, Argentina. This year the two-event week attracted more than 200 sailors sailing in two fleets (advanced and intermediate), coming from Chile, USA, Uruguay, New Zealand and Brazil.

The Semana del Mar has always been a ‘must go to’ event in Argentina, taking place in the City of Mar del Plata, 400 km to the south of Buenos Aires, the capital city of the country. Organised by two clubs, it has always been made up of two events with an overall ranking. This year however, there is no overall ranking and the Semana del Mar has been split into two completely separate championships: the International Sailing Week organised by the Club Nautico Mar del Plata, and the Week of Mar del Plata, hosted by the Yacht Club Argentino.

The events took place from February 6 to 14, and the sailors enjoyed the varied conditions of the weather in the South Atlantic Ocean, including the rough seas that local photographer Capizzano has made famous with his photos.

In the first event ending February 10, the Argentinean sailors Klaus Lange and Brian Higgins led the scoreboard from beginning to end and in third place was Francisco Ducasse from Chile.

In the second event it was the turn of the Willifords from the USA to take up the first two spots (Christopher first and Duncan runner up) and the third place went to Juan Martin Queirel from Argentina.
