The Windows IODA European Championship has been a great success with 10 races completed for the girls and 9 for the girls.
The overall winner in the Boys fleet was Ryan Yee Kang TEO (SIN) who sailed an immaculate series. Second overall and European Champion is Tytus Bukowski from Poland, followed by bronze medallist Rok Verderber from Slovenia.
Mara Turin and Rok Verderber return ashore after the final race
In the Girls fleet Mara Turin (SLO) was unstoppable winning her second European Championship title, silver medallist is Aina Colon (ESP) third place went to Eefje Nissen from the Netherlands.
Yesterday was a long day again out on the water, but this time in good breeze. The fleet completed three races in shifty 1012 kts N wind. There were temporary lulls of 56 kts and fresh 1516 kts periods as well. Racing was really tactical and reading the shifts was key to earning low scores.
In the Boys fleet Tytus Butowski (Poland) has a small lead from Rok Verderber (Slovenia) and Luca Valentino (Italy). In the Girls fleet, Mara Turin (Slovenia) has a comfortable six point lead ahead of Eefje Nissen (Netherlands) and Aina Colom (Spain). Last years champion looks set to retain her title in style.
Today was another difficult day for the race committee. The fleets launched on time in the hope of catching up on the races that were lost but the wind died and all boats returned to shore. After a couple of hours the light breeze showed signs of stabilising and the boats went back out. One more race for each fleet was completed but again the breeze died and the boats are back and sails are going into the rack.
Tomorrow stronger winds are forecast and hopes are high for at least 2 races for each fleet.
This evening 19 countries will attend the opening ceremony at the Optimist North American Championships in Bermuda and racing will commence tomorrow.
