USA won the BMW Opti Team Racing Cup that took place last weekend in Berlin.

Long Island Sailing Optimist Team, representing the USA, won the prestigious 23rd edition of the BMW Opti Team Racing Cup Team Race this weekend at the Postdamer Yacht Club, Segler-CLub Gothia on Lake Wannsee in Berlin, Germany. 16 teams representing 13 countries, GER 4, DEN, FIN, GBR, ITA, NED, NOR, POL, RUS, SLO, SWE, UKR, USA attended the two day regatta.

On Saturday the Race Committee did a great job completing the first two stages and the first race of the 3rd stage in winds of 8 to 12 knots and flat water. On Sunday, the wind dropped to just 4 to 6 knots but despite this the full schedule was completed.

The LISOT team reached the finals in impressive form losing just one race to Germany. The finals went 2-0 to USA, leaving Norway second, Team Germany Berlin third followed by GER PYC, the team from the host club, in fourth.

This is the first year a non-European team has ever won this event and congratulations got to the Long Island Sailing Optimist Team of Alexandra DelBello (American YC), Drew Gallagher and Ty Ingram (Larchmont YC), Will Logue and Jack Parkin (Riverside YC) all coached by LISOT Head Coach Pepe Bettini.
