Thirteen countries and 327 sailors compete in the Sv. Nikola regatta

The 18th edition of the Sv. Nikolas regatta was held from 3-6 December. Yacht Club Vega, one of the oldest sailing clubs in Croatia, was host to this now well established regatta.

There were two optimist fleets, 119 less experienced sailors in the 'up to 12 fleet' and 208 in the 'youth fleet'. Day one saw winds in excess of 35 knots and unfortunately no racing but day two brought sunshine and good winds, each fleet having two races. The final day, although sunny, saw winds of less than 4 knots and after three attempts to start racing the decision was taken to abandon for the day.

Juhani Soini, IODA European Vice President, who was a member of the International Jury in Pula, said that he welcomed the large number of inexperienced sailors who were participating for the first time in a major European regatta.

Once again thanks to the organisers for a great regatta.
