After three days of sailing in moderate to light winds, Slovakian sailor Miriam Babjakova claimed victory at the fourth South East European Open Optimist Cup on Lake Palic in Serbia. She dominated the fleet throughout on completely unfamiliar territory. The hopes of Serbian Luka Tosic were raised in the last race; he led the pack after the windward mark, but the race was abandoned and he came second overall in the regatta. The Slovak Team also won the memorial Giorgio Lauro Trophy for the best placed team overall. A full list of all the results can be found here http://www.seeooc.com/regata2010/index.htm

This year 71 competitors came from 8 countries and three continents (Armenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kenya, Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia and, of course, Serbia). A family and child friendly atmosphere prevailed, there are no major roads nearby, the Palic Yacht Club is in the middle of a green, tree-filled park beside the local zoo and all accommodation (provided free to international competitors) is within walking distance. Everyone roams around with no need for supervision - appreciated both by parents and children. The event is all about making new friends and having great parties; the children organised their own talent contest one evening and there were several barbecues. SEEOC is small enough to ensure a great mixing of nationalities, and is exactly what an international regatta should be - simple, low cost and enormous fun. This event just gets better each year.
