196 sailors from 7 countries gathered on Mercury Bay, Whitianga, to participate in the NZL National Open Championship,

196 sailors from 7 countries gathered on Mercury Bay, Whitianga, to participate in the NZL National Open Championship, held from March 31 to April 6. Apart from the local New Zealanders, sailors came from Singapore, Australia, the UK, France, Tahiti and Cook Islands.

Twelve races were sailed in light wind conditions. Kimberly Lim from Singapore led the fleet sailing consistently and finishing first in 6 races, totalling 22 points net after excluding 22 points of a Z flag penalty. Second overall and National Champion was Jayvee Buchanan who also had a good performance with five bullets, one second, two thirds and other two races in the top ten. He discarded an OCS and a 12th. Third overal was Andrew Tan, from Singapore.

Among the girls, Kimberly was first overall, followed by Olivia Mackay, 5th overall, who was crowned first national girl.
