The optimist is, quite simply, the boat in which the young people of the world learn to sail.
The word "Optimist" and the symbol above are Registered Trademarks of the IODA in respect of boats, sails and sporting events.
Sailors are not required to display a protest flag when protesting in fleet races at IODA events (Worlds and Continentals). The flag is still required for team races.
